Lagos State Government said yesterday that at least seven corpses have been recovered from the scene of the boat that capsized on Sunday at Imude in Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area, adding that it has also rescued two people alive. Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr. Cornelius Ojelabi who announced the development said there were 11 people in the boat, which capsized on Sunday, throwing its occupants into the water.
“Two people were rescued and they are responding to treatment. The other nine persons in the boat drowned. Their bodies had been recovered completely and were buried yesterday CMonday), he said adding that the drowning of the nine persons were not as a result of natural disaster.According to him, they were victims of water pressure caused by a bigger and powerful speed boat, which over powered the canoe.”It was the pressure from speed boat that caused the canoe to capsize and not any natural disaster”, he said adding that the state government would investigate the incident further to prevent future recurrence”, the commissioner said..
