The Federal Government (FG) said on Monday that it has uncovered the sum of N232 billion unsubstantiated claims by petroleum marketers.

Minister for Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala made the revelation while speaking at the 18th Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja. She said at least 15 forensic experts were deployed from Central Bank and Price Water House Coopers to verify claims put forward by marketers in the oil subsidy probe adding that it is slow but that government is making progress hence it has been able to unravel funds that would have been paid to marketers who did not make any supply.

She said that though it has been a little bit painful for Nigerians she said it is worth it and that government has been making payments to marketers whose claims have been verified adding that though some marketers have continued to blackmail the FG with threats that they will not supply fuel, but that government has continued with the ongoing probe. She commended the Aig Imokuede committee for a job well done adding that some auditors initially hired have also been fired for not doing what is expected of them and that others have been hired along the way.
