The year 2012 came with a lot of big developments that impacted negatively or positively on the film and music industry. Here are some of the major developments.
Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) distributed N100 million royalties to Nigerian musicians, while Mrs. Fiberesima Ibinabo was elected first female president, Actors Guild of Nigeria. Nollywood actor, Chinedu Ikedieze also known as Pawpaw got married to Neoma, Stephenie Okereke got married to Linus Idahosa while Uche Jumbo tied the nuts with Rodriguez. Also in the year, the R&B crooner, Tuface Idibia got married to Annie Macaulay.
Others are Funke Akindele and Chidi Mokeme who also said goodbye to singleness. Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, opened her fashion outfit, Ini Edo collection at the Dallas International Fashion show in the United States. Pop singer Chris Brown was in Lagos, while Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okogie rounded up the year with safe delivery of a baby girl in the US. But it was not so good all through the year. Here are some of the bad memories of the year. The industry lost some of the best creative hands. They include Peter Eneh, former state chairman Actors Guild Nigeria, Enugu State and Enebeli Elebuwa better known as Andrew in the documentary used to dissuade Nigerians from leaving the country.
The popular Yoruba actress, Miss Bisi Komolafe also died during the year. Nkiru Silvanus, nollywood actress and Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor on Public Affairs was kidnapped and released after payment of ransom. The year also witnessed release of the worst of movies and X-rated film, cloning of censorship certificate and a terrible lull in the business of filmmaking.
