YOU CAN WIN 2015 IF…, CBN GOVERNOR TELLS NIGERIAN YOUTHS

Governor, CBN

Governor, CBN

Governor Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has called on Nigerian youths to go ahead and form their political party if they wish to wrest power from the older generation, stressing that with 68 million youths, the Presidency is within their reach.

Sanusi who spoke at the colloquium: “Beyond merger: A national movement for change” to mark the 61st birthday of the former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu said if the youths act on his advice,  may be he will be very happy to vote for a 38 year old President in 2015. The CBN governor who was replying to a presentation made by the R&B singer, Banky Wellington said it will be difficult for Nigerian youths to realise their tomorrow today in a country where politicians 73 years and above are seeking to actualise their aspiration using existing political parties.

“I like the passion but you know where you go wrong, you are waiting for Asiwaju to invite you to come to their meeting;  you want to be in there. Why don’t t you  set up your own political  party for the youth. if you have 68 million young people, if you have a youth party, with  68 million votes you win elections and then all these fellows –  all of us you see on the front role from Asiwaju to Fashola to Kabiru Gaya, they will be knocking on your door for ministerial appointment.

“For those of you who really think that the youths need to be in political position I  don’t think that in the currently political configuration, because the kind of names we are hearing  with the people who are going to celebrate their 73 birth day looking for election,  I don’t see any chance for that your tomorrow  coming out today. So if you want that tomorrow today, you have to create your own today. You guys here with your friends, set up your own political movement, and make your thoughts so indispensable that you agenda has to be the agenda of the government”, the CBN governor said.

He explained that it is sad for people to begin to use countries like Ghana, Ethiopia as leading nations in Africa. “People talk about Ghana as an example in Africa, Ethiopia,  Botswana,   don’t we have a sense of self respect. We are giant, a giant with clay feet, we are eagle, eagle without wings. It is time,  for our dignity, we must begin to ask questions of political authority. Politics is not about joining a particular party, I am not a politician, I am not in a political party but I am in politics because bad politics will make for bad economics bad society, bad values and bad life. We need to improve on the quality of politics in this country, it will be good to make it sexy, but  I do hope it will not just be sexy, it will be more intelligent, more articulate, more issue based and I do hope that this  68 million young people that we have will set the agenda, will drive it and maybe I will be very happy  to vote in 2015 for a 38 year old President in this country”, he said. Sanusi who condemned members of the National Assembly for re-confirming politicians who have nothing to show in previous appointment attributed the development to lack of regards for merit and competence.

In querying the relationships between federal character and competence, the governor asked, “What is the relationship between the number of states in the federation and the number of minister to share at the federal level?  It is so unintelligent, so you must have 36 ministers whether or not you need 36 ministries and another six from different geographical zones and the only qualification is that you have to come from a state and you must have attempted WAEC”, he said, adding that in other climes such appointments are based on track records.

According to him, if you entrust you government to people who have not track records, it becomes Herculean to expect them to do things when they are there adding that there is a need to amend the Nigerian constitution to reflect not only attempt at the West African Examination Council(WAEC) but  track records.

The governor who said corruption is more prevalent in India than it is in Nigeria added that the different between corruption elsewhere and in Nigeria is that while the proceeds of corruption are invested in intervention that are good of the people, the same cannot be said in Nigeria adding that what is killing the country is the fact that people are corrupt and they are doing nothing.

IMBIBE LOVE, SELFLESSNESS AT EASTER PDP TELLS NIGERIANS

The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has called on Christians to continue to imbibe the virtues of love, selflessness and service as exemplified by Jesus Christ as they go about to celebrate Easter. Public Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh who made the plea in his Easter message to Nigerians called on Christians to base all their actions on truth as underscored by the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Quoting from the words of Clarence Hall, he explained that “If Easter says anything to us today, it says this: You can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there. You can nail it to a cross, wrap it in winding sheets and shut it up in a tomb, but it will rise”.

He called on Nigerians to love one another and exhibit the time honoured quality of being their brothers’ keepers, charging those who are in authority to emulate the humility and selflessness of Jesus Christ and see their positions as a call to service and not for selfish gains. He alluded to a statement credited to Pope Francis where he said, “….whoever is the most high up must be at the service of others” and called on Nigerians, especially elected and appointed office holders across the board, to assist one another wherever there is suffering.

He called on Nigerians to rise above petty prejudices and overcome the forces of darkness that are threatening to tear the country apart. “Our being one country despite the cultural and religious differences is not an accident but an opportunity to share and cherish our common humanity. No force or ideology is strong enough to disintegrate Nigeria. Nigeria has come to stay and will certainly outlive those threatening its corporate existence,” he said.

OLUWOLE AWOLOWO WAS A LEADER, GENTLEMAN SAYS FASHOLA

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has expressed sadness at the passage of former Publisher of the African Newspapers of Nigeria, Chief Oluwole Awolowo, describing him as a leader and a gentleman.

Chief Oluwole, the first son of the late sage and former Premier of the defunct Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, died last Wednesday in a London hospital. In a statement signed by Special Adviser to the governor on Media, Mr Hakeem Bello, Fashola said he was particularly pained by the fact that the former member of Apapa Local Council passed on at a time he was needed most to propel the enduring legacy of the Awolowo Family.

“It is, indeed saddening that Chief Oluwole would pass on at this point in time when he is most needed to continue to provide needed support to the family, especially to the matriarch of the Awolowo Dynasty, Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Awolowo, who turned 97 recently.  That Chief Oluwole has played a leading role in the affairs of the prominent Awolowo Family, especially since the translation of Papa Awolowo, is never in doubt. His indomitable presence as Vice-Chairman of the African Newspapers of Nigeria, publishers of the Tribune titles and overseer over the other family interests has gone a long way to keep the legacies of Papa Awolowo alive years after his translation. He was a genuine leader and a natural gentleman.”

Governor Fashola recalled the political career of Chief Oluwole Awolowo, especially when at a tender age he demonstrated his independence of mind by joining the youth vanguard of a party opposed to that of his father. The Governor pointed out that this was just one example of the broadmindedness which “dominated the entire life of Chief Oluwole”.

“But Papa Awolowo did not rebuke him for that. Instead, the Sage admired him for it and gave him the nickname “Unbreakable”, a name which he obviously lived in full both in his public and private life,” Governor Fashola said adding that lessons could be learnt from men like Chief Oluwole Awolowo in a milieu where “ethnic, religious and sectional considerations still remain dominant”.

Condoling with the matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Fashola also recalled the periods when Chief Oluwole served in Lagos in political capacities. He said the deceased would be sorely missed “not only by the famous Awolowo dynasty but also by the people of Lagos whom he served and the entire people of the Southwest and Nigeria”. The Governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of Chief Oluwole  Awolowo and that the Almighty God would grant his family, his Ikenne community and most of all, his dear mother, Chief (Mrs) H.I.D Awolowo, the fortitude to bear the loss.

STEER CLEAR OF LAGOS, ACN WARNS BOKO HARAM

Chairman ACN, Lagos State, Chief Henry Ajomale

Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has warned the violent Islamic sect Boko Haram to steer clear of Lagos or get crushed by the will of the peace loving people of Lagos.

Reacting to recent find of stockpile of arms and ammunition in Lagos, Publicity Secretary of the party in Lagos, Mr.  Joe Igbokwe said Lagos, as Nigeria’s last refuge from the overwhelming security crisis ravaging the nation, has the full capacity to defend itself from unprovoked attack from any criminal group, warning violent groups to stay off Lagos or be ready to face the wrath and firepower of Lagos State.

“We were rudely awakened by the recent discovery of a hideout in Ijora, being used by terrorists and criminal elements as a pad for a possible assault on Lagos. We believe this is an affront to Lagos and would be met with the necessary force it deserves.

“We want to serve notice to Boko Haram or any other insurgent group that Lagos is fully prepared, security wise to deal with any assault and that we will not refrain from enforcing the peace and tranquility that reigns in Lagos at present, as other parts of the country grapple with worsening security challenges.

“Lagos ACN recognizes the fact that Lagos has become a haven for all Nigerians fleeing all manners of security problems in their respective states and that this is a result of careful planning and deliberate investment in security.

“We recognize that as Boko Haram chase people out of the North, Lagos State has risen to the challenge of providing impregnable security to the many Nigerians under its tent and we will not tolerate any deliberate attempt to challenge that status.

“Lagos remains a no go area for Boko Haram, armed robbers, kidnappers and all other forms of criminals who are bent on denting the sparkling security credential the Lagos State Government has painstakingly earned in recent times. We warn that any attack on Lagos will bring unimaginable consequences and warn any group or person thinking of such to desist as Lagos State government will surely get at such group or persons.

“We want to join our voices with those of other groups and individuals who have demanded for a thorough investigation of the terrorists arrested in Ijora Badia. We want a full scale investigation that will reveal the identities of the alleged terrorists, the possible linkages they have with other groups and people, the motives of these terrorists, their mode of operations, etc.

“Also, we want an investigation into the ownership of the property where these terrorists were arrested and why it had remained in such abandoned state for long as to offer a hideout to terrorists. We demand that no lead be ignored in this investigation, even if such leads point to unconventional beliefs in the present security challenges facing the nation”, the party said.

FELIX MORKA DROVE AGAINST TRAFFIC, FASHOLA INSISTS

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola

Lagos State Government  has described the text messages allegedly emanating from Mr. Felix Morka that  the  Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) ordered his police escorts to manhandle his driver and children during a traffic incident on Tuesday 26th March as false and malicious.

A statement signed by Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Alhaji Hakeem Bello said the  premise and content of the message are completely false.

“On the aforementioned date, at around 3pm, the Governor was returning from a Security meeting at the headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS) through CMD Road in the Magodo area when his convoy and other road users got blocked by a man who had driven his Jeep with Registration number KU 549 KJA against the flow of traffic. The identity of the owner was later established to be Felix Morka.

“The gentleman in question had contravened a traffic law by vacating his own lane and driving against oncoming traffic. This had resulted in him blocking other road users, including the Governor’s convoy, from progressing on their journey. After about two minutes, in which the driver bluntly refused to reverse and move to his own side of the road as politely requested by the Police escorts, the Governor instructed his Aide-de-Camp to investigate what was going on.

“Mr. Felix Morka’s driver was immediately arrested by the Policemen. He was charged to court on Wednesday 27th March as is the norm for such traffic offences.
At no point were the occupants of Mr. Felix Morka’s vehicle harassed or molested. Mr. Morka’s claim that his driver’s arrest was connected to his criticism of this administration is laughable. No one in the convoy knew who he was at the point the vehicle he was in was driven against the normal flow of traffic, the reasons for his driver’s arrest were due to a clear contravention of a well-known law. Further, photographic and video evidence are available which would be use in the prosecution of the case”, the statement said.

Mr. John Okafor, better known as IBU

Nollywood actor, Mr. John Okafor better known as Ibu says he has been targeted by homosexuals for sexual gratification  in recent times. He said his first contact was with a man he knows very well adding that he has to physically attack the fellow and put him out of sight.

“The first time I had the encounter was from someone I used to respect a lot.  He told me that they would pay me very well and that I  should become of one of them.  I asked him how he wanted to insert his thing. We know so well that the industry has been penetrated. It is not only the movie industry,  that dreaded disease called homosexual has escalated and penetrated all the corners of our society.  “Unfortunately, it is not in our culture. God is angry. God  showed us an example with the flood. Next time it might be fire.

“A lot of things are happening.  This is the end time. if God  does not treat this matter of homosexuality in our country and other places, then God has an apology for Sodom and Gomorrah , even though God cannot make mistakes. There is no different between what is happening now and what happened then”, he said in Lagos.
