Nigeria’s human rights advocate Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin has received the International Women of Courage Award hosted annually by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry.

She was honoured at the weekend as as one of the 10 phenomenal women in the world. Odumakin is President, Campaign for Democracy (CD) and Women Arise Organisation. She received the award from First Lady of United States, Mrs. Michelle Obama and Secretary of State, Mr.  John Kerry at a ceremony that was held at the Dean Acheson auditorium in the U.S. Department of State.

The annual Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award honours women who have achieved extra-ordinary feat around the world through advocacy for human rights, women’s equality, and social progress.
