Late Nollywood actor, Justus Esiri who died February 19 this year will now be buried on Friday April 12 in his home town, Abraka. Spokesperson for the family, Mr. George Esiri told journalists that there will be service of songs for the late Esiri on April 9, followed by a commendation mass at St. Jude Catholic Church, Mafoluku, Lagos, on April 10. He said the corpse will thereafter be flown to Warri, Delta State for the second and final phase of the burial arrangements. He said the body will lie-in-state at the Polo Turf in Abraka on April 12 for few hours before it will be moved to his residence in Abraka for interment. Entertainment follows immediately.
Chief Esiri popularly known for his role Headmaster in the series, Village Headmaster, died of complications arising from diabetes.
He was born in 1942 and had his primary and secondary school education in Abraka and Warri, respectively, before proceeding to the Maximillan University and Weners Institute of Engineering in Germany, between 1964 and 1968. He was newscaster with the Voice of Nigeria, German Service, before he veered into acting. His first appearance was with the Schiller Theatre in Berlin before returning to Nigeria in 1976. The late actor played a key role in Ola Balogun’s movie, Dinner with the Devil, as well as during the Second World Black and African Festival of Art and Culture in Lagos in 1977 and has featured in scores of movies. He is survived by Mrs Omiete Esiri, widow; children, Mrs Ophiia Edlia Edewor, Mrs Ejiro Efijemueh, Mr. Justus Esiri Jnr, Dr. Sidney Esiri (Dr Sid), Mr. Andrew Esiri, Miss Tobor Esiri and grandchildren.
