CARDINAL JEORGE MARIO BERGOGLIO Has been named as new pope of the Vatican City. Cardinal Bergoglio is 76. He was until his appointment the Archbishop of Argentina.  He was named  about an hour after white smoke  emanated from the chimney in the Vatican city accompanied with the clanging of bell hanging on the belfry at St. Peter’s Basilica,  indicating that the new pope has been selected to take over as head of the Vatican City. The new pope who has adopted Pope Francis as his official title blessed the crowd after introducing himself.  He is clad in white robe.

Position of the pope became vacant February 28 when Pope Benedict XVI Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger resigned as head of the Vatican City for health reasons. Though many believe that he resigned due to leaks and scandals that rocked the Vatican city.  He was 85.
