Lagos State Government yesterday appealed to the Federal Government to refund the sum of N51 billion it has spent on repair of federal roads in the state.Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat who made the appeal in Lagos said he could not explain why the Federal Government has not paid the money.
“If the money is paid, it will help the state government to complete such projects as Ago-Palace Way road, Ejigbo-Idimu road and Ayobo-Ipaja road among others”
He explained that the state government would continue to engage the Federal Government in meaningful dialogue to facilitate payment of the money adding that at least 49,742 jobs have been created through infrastructural renewal in addition to 49,742 others created through patronage of local contractors.
He said 261 projects have been awarded encompassing 82 roads equivalent to 112.75 kilometres and that 255 roads totalling 210.26 kilometres are yet to be completed”. He said topography, attitude of residents and lack of funds are major challenges working against the quest to deliver on projects in the state.
