One person was confirmed dead and several others injured when a three story building collapsed at No. 9 Bashiru Street, Ojodu, trapping construction workers underneath the rubbles.
The building used for worship by Foursquare Gospel Church was being renovated when it collapsed at about 5 PM on Tuesday evening. A resident who identified herself as Stephanie Kanu said the building showed sign of distress adding that instead of pulling it down, the landlord opted to add more floors.
Speaking at the scene, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Dr. Olufemi Osayintolu said he got wind of the disaster 10 minutes after the structure caved in and mobilised his men to the scene.
Officials of the National Emergency Agency, (NEMA), Nigerian Police Force(NPF) and other rescued operators were also on the scene when we visited.While confirming the story, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Toyin Ayinde, a town planner said one person died while another was injured.
