The Copyright Society of Nigeria(COSON) has inaugurated an 8-man Board of Trustee  for the COSON Music Foundation. The board has Chief Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi as Chairman. Others are Professor Victor Uwaifo, Erelu Keji Okunowo,  Mr. Edi Lawani,  Mr. Toju Ejueyitchie, Dr. Ben Ofoeze,  Chief Osita Okeke, and a representative of the Nigerian Copyright Commission(NCC).

Speaking at the event, chairman COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji said the foundation will provide support for artistes in distress as well as funding for music education.

In his response, Chairman of the foundation, Fabiyi described the idea of music foundation as a novel one and a step in the right direction. “It will provide necessary resources to intensity the battle  against piracy and other forms of abuse of rights of musicians in Nigeria”. He assured Nigerians of  openness, fairness and  equitable administration of funds that will accrue to the foundation to the general good of the music industry and welfare of musicians”, he said.

Meanwhile plaque for the COSON Song Awards which will climax  the COSON week has been designed by Yaba College of Technology and presented to members of the public. The COSON week commences May 20 and climaxes with COSON Song Awards on May 25th, 2013.
