President Goodluck Jonathan this evening declared state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adawama state. The president said he made the declaration as part of his duty to protect the sovereignty of the Nigerian state.
“We have a duty to protect sovereignty of our nation and give protection to citizens of this country. We have a duty to stand firm against those who threaten the sovereignty of Nigeria I hereby in in exercise of the powers conferred on me declare state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa state”, the President said, adding that he has ordered troops and security forces to move in with powers to arrest, detain, and knock down any areas of perceived to be haven for terrorist operation and arrest anybody with illegal possessions of weapons.
He said the details of the orders will be translated to the National Assembly. “Governors will continue to discharge their constitutional responsibility”, adding that it is a warning in the period of six months in the first instance.
“ I urge you to cooperate with the armed forces. Cooperate with security agencies to ensure that normalcy returns to the state. I want to reassure you that those who are rebellious, who take delight in killing security operatives will be brought to book. We will hunt them down, we will phase them out, and bring them to justice. It is a matter of time, we will win this war on terror”, the president assured.
