There are indications that the inability of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to come out with list of interim officers to run the party across the nation may have been responsible for delay in registration of the party by the Independent National Electoral Officers(INEC). Chairman of the 89 member merger committee Chief Tom Ikimi who made the revelation said it is one of the condition demanded by INEC for the registration of the party.

He said that his committee has concluded work adding that the committee has been able to dissolve The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and All Nigeria Peoples Party(ANPP), a faction of All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA) and Democratic People’s Party(DPP)  APC, adding that it is now left for leadership of the party to iron out the issue of interim national officers as demanded by INEC.“I am pleased to report that we have made appreciable progress.

The three parties have fused into one, adopted one symbol, accepted one slogan, a common manifesto and a single constitution”, he said. Ikimi explained that the leadership of the merging parties will now pursue the registration of APC with INEC to be in a position to field candidates for the next general elections. He said the merging parties have held successful conventions in Lagos, Abuja and Guasu. They approved and accepted the name APC, and now these three parties have merged. “We believe that we have completed the assignment that brought us here,” he said.
